Cleaners only mask the smell for a little while, and then it comes back, because it never fixed what caused the mold to grow in the first place. The problem is several types of mold (including black mold) growing inside your internal drain hoses of your machine, that is what you are smelling. The Washer Fan fixes this by circulating fresh air through your washers drum and lowers the relative humidity inside to a level below the point at which the mold can grow. If you machine already smells, it is because the mold has built up to the point inside your pipes that no amount of cleaning or leaving your door open between uses is going to stop the mold growth.
